Mom at Work…Help for the working mother.

bcb12

Mothers are the fastest growing population of the labor force. About a third of these women return to work by the time their babies are three months old, and the other two thirds return by the time their babies are 6 months old. Is it any wonder that babies are not exclusively breastfed for the recommended six months?

Our Mom at Work program is addressing this problem by working with employers in Rapides parish to provide direct assistance and guidance in implementing a breastfeeding friendly worksite. We will assist employers in supporting their breastfeeding employees with a written policy, adequate break times, and a private, sanitary location to breastfeed her baby or express breastmilk. Scroll down to see a list of the employers in Central Louisiana who have enrolled in Mom at Work, offering their employees a supportive environment for familes to provide their babies with the healthiest start in life!

The best news is that a breastfeeding supportive work environment is a win-win situation! In addition to all of the health benefits for mother and baby, the business benefits as well. Businesses that provide a breastfeeding supportive environment enjoy:

o An average $3 return on each $1 invested

o Less absenteeism in parents of breastfed babies

o Lower health care costs (an average of $400 per baby for the first year!)

o Greater employee morale, loyalty, productivity, and retention

o Family-friendly image in the community

We are proud to announce the following employers as breastfeeding friendly, as designated by enrollment in CLBC’s Mom at Work program. Click on the employers’ links to learn more about thier business or employment opportunities:
